How to Think About Goals (This Matters)
Before we plan what, here’s the mindset shift:
Goals are direction. Systems are execution.
Goals answer:
“Where am I going?”
Systems answer:
“How do I show up when motivation disappears?”
So instead of:
- ❌ “I want to be more consistent”
- ✅ “I want a system that makes consistency inevitable”
This plan is built to:
- Reduce friction
- Remove decision fatigue
- Make progress feel obvious

STEP 1: Your Life Pillars (The Containers)
These are the big buckets your life naturally falls into.
Everything you plan should live inside one of these.
Your Core Pillars for 2026
- Health & Energy – body, movement, sleep, nutrition, mental health
- Family & Relationships – partner, child, friends, presence
- Career & Craft – job, skills, learning, output
- Creative Expression & Growth – content, journaling, reflection, learning
- Life Operations – home, finances, systems, routines, logistics
If something doesn’t fit a pillar, it’s probably noise.

STEP 2: Your 5 Roles in Life (Who You Are)
Roles help you plan identity-based goals, not just tasks.
Your 5 Roles
- Self – your health, mindset, joy, energy
- Partner / Parent – love, presence, support
- Professional – employee, leader, learner
- Creator / Builder – documenting, creating, expressing
- Operator – the person who keeps life running smoothly
When planning, always ask:
“Which role does this serve?”
If a role is ignored long enough, life feels off.

STEP 3: 12-Month Outlook (Big Picture Direction)
This is NOT a to-do list.
It’s a north star for each role.
Example Prompts (fill these in for yourself):
- Self: “By the end of 2026, I want to feel…”
- Partner/Parent: “I want to be remembered this year as…”
- Professional: “I want to be better at…”
- Creator: “I want to document…”
- Operator: “I want life to feel more…”
Limit each role to 1–2 sentences.
Clarity beats complexity.

STEP 4: 6-Month Focus (January–June / July–December)
Now we zoom in.
Ask:
“If I did ONE thing well per role for the next 6 months, what would matter most?”
Example:
- Self: Build a movement habit that feels automatic
- Partner/Parent: Protect uninterrupted time together
- Professional: Strengthen one key skill
- Creator: Publish consistently without burnout
- Operator: Simplify daily logistics
These become your priority lanes.

STEP 5: Monthly Intentions (Theme > Tasks)
Each month gets:
- 1 theme
- 3 focus areas max
Example:
Month Theme: Consistency over intensity
Focus Areas:
- Self → 3 workouts/week, not perfect workouts
- Creator → 1 long-form + repurposing
- Operator → Weekly reset ritual
If it doesn’t support the theme, it’s optional.

STEP 6: Weekly Planning (The Bridge)
Weekly planning answers:
“What does progress look like this week?”
Weekly Questions:
- What does “showing up” look like in each role?
- What is the minimum effective effort?
- Where will friction show up?
Weekly Structure:
- 1–2 priorities per role
- Schedule first, then fill gaps
- Leave white space (future you will thank you)
